Northern Ireland Water Mains Rehabilitation
The Northern Ireland Water Mains Project is a £96 million initiative which will deliver the upgrading of over 1,200 kilometres of water main over a period of four years. The project comprises a series of individual schemes which will upgrade the water mains system that supplies 625 million litres of water per day to 1.7 million consumers. Many parts of this infrastructure are over 40 years old with consequent failures leading to bursts, leaks and pressure problems. The Water Mains Project will provide a water supply system that meets the standards set by the European Union.
The specially formed Holleran-Lagan Joint Venture was selected as one of two Framework contractors to undertake the entire works progamme and work started in May 2004 to deliver more than £40m of planned rehabilitation works. In the first four years of the contract more than 500kms of pipeline were laid by the Holleran Lagan Joint Venture with nearly two thirds of this amount being installed using advanced no-dig methods.
